Nick Cavanaugh (Julian Sands) is a top surgeon who is besotted with the beautiful Helena, (Sherilyn Fenn). When Helena becomes the victim of a hit-and-run, Nick decides to secretly care for Helena at his own home, resorting to extreme measures like amputation and manipulation to exert control over her circumstances. Bill Paxton plays Helena's boyfriend, Ray O'Malley.
