35-year-old Daniel lives a busy but lonely life and shares an uneasy love/hate relationship with Sonia. His world is disrupted by the appearance of a stranger (Jean-Hugues Anglade) who proceeds to insert himself into his life and the man's persistence takes its toll on Daniel and Sonia, leaving Daniel alone with the nagging question "Why?"
